Virginia Commonwealth University: Key facts and deadlines

  • When do the semesters start?

    • the Fall semester in September (IIHEM) and
    • the Spring semester in January (VCU).
  • How long are the Master's programs?

    One year.

  • How many courses are in each program?

    There are ten courses in the double degree program, plus the capstone project (Projet de Fin d'Etudes).

  • What is the course load per semester for full-time students?

    Two courses at IIHEM and four courses per semester at VCU.

  • I am working. Can I attend the program part time?

    At VCU, you will have to take a full-time load.

  • What are class hours?

    Classes at IIHEM are given from 6-9 p.m. and occasionally 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday.

  • How many class hours are there per week/per day at IIHEM?

    A typical week will have 12 hours of classes. Exceptionally, some weeks will have 15 hours and other weeks less. With the exception of Saturday courses, there will never be more than 3 hours of class per day. (in addition to the PFE work load).

  • How many hours per week should I expect to spend working in the program?

    Per course, you should expect to spend 3 hours per week in-class and 9 hours per weekout of class on your assignments. For a full load of 4 courses, this adds up to 48 hours per week.
